Wisdom Teeth Woes?

Are you experiencing oral pain in the gums at the back of your mouth on one or both sides, and possibly also in the top and bottom? It could be your wisdom teeth making an appearance. They are the last molars to erupt, generally during your late teens or early 20s. Usually you will have two wisdom teeth in your upper jaw and two in the lower jaw.
Apart from the general pain and discomfort of wisdom teeth emerging, there can be other complications. Some common issues include:

  • Infections due to difficulties with brushing and flossing, as there can be a lack of space for wisdom teeth in the jaw. Repeated infections lead to ‘scarring’-and this can make things worse
  • Chewing difficulties, especially as upper teeth have no room to bite against swollen gums down below
  • Cheek biting as the crowded teeth may grate against the cheek, resulting in sores and ulcers
  •  Impaction – where the wisdom tooth emerges at an angle, causing it to push into the next

tooth. This can be especially troubling as you can develop a cavity in the adjacent tooth
